LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Franciscan Health Foundation recently hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the new St. Elizabeth Garden.

Bishop Timothy Doherty of the Diocese of Lafayette spoke during the ceremony and then blessed the ground the garden will be built on.

The St. Elizabeth Garden will be located in the footprint of the previous St. Elizabeth School of Nursing building. This was also the previous site of St. Francis High School.

The St. Elizabeth Garden will not only honor the history of the school and its graduates, but it will also create a functional green space for students, faculty and staff. The garden will beautify the campus and surrounding community with perennials, new trees, a walking path, benches, statues and sculptures.

“We are thrilled to see the St. Elizabeth Garden project coming to fruition,” said Michelle Gerrety, EdD, director, for the St. Elizabeth School of Nursing. “The garden will provide a tranquil space that can be enjoyed by our students, faculty, staff and neighbors in the community. We are extremely grateful to the Franciscan Health Foundation for their commitment to creating this beautiful addition to our campus.”

The garden will be equipped with an outdoor educational space that will include room for study, relaxation and reflection as well as create an opportunity for alumni and friends to leave their legacy etched in stone.
